Billy Price explains what to do if you have filed bankruptcy and are trying to rent a house or apartment.
Clients who come to see me are often concerned after they’ve filed bankruptcy will they be able to rent an apartment or a house. The process of renting a house after you’ve filed for bankruptcy is to make sure that you’re well informed of the policies of the person you’re trying to rent from. I tell all of my clients before you put a deposit down, ask them if the bankruptcy filing is going to prevent you from renting that place. Usually the answer is no. Most places will rent you an apartment if you have filed for bankruptcy. Sometimes they won’t, that’s why I tell my clients to ask that question before they put a deposit down, so they don’t lose their money.
